next week, the fantasy is no longer a fantasy

I’m going to be frank (please Sev, don’t make that lame joke :P): I am not a hardcore Final Fantasy fan. Never have been, to be honest.

But yet, I’m so incredibly pumped for Final Fantasy XIII. Don’t ask me why, but since 2008 (before the E3 360 announcement, before you state what I think you would), I’ve been getting more and more hyped for this. And now, despite my noobness of the series, even though I have FFVII on PSN and Crisis Core on PSP, FFXIII is my most anticipated game ever.

Even more so than games of series’ I am really into, like Metal Gear Solid or Grand Theft Auto.

But it’s not just going to be Final Fantasy XIII this month, oh God no. March is going to be pretty darn expensive for me. So, where do I start?

On Friday, I’ve got Battlefield: Bad Company 2 to buy. And then the main event itself next Tuesday, but oh no, it had to happen on the one week where I will get little-to-none free time. Curse you GDC, I say, curse you!

Thankfully, other than Yakuza 3 – which I’ll skip for a while – appearing on the Friday, nothing other than that. The week after, though, is going to bitch slap me pretty hard. While there a decent catalogue of titles coming out on March 19 – like Supreme Commander 2, Metro 2033, BlazBlue – only one title is getting my attention: God of War III. Even worse so on my bank balance, I’ve decided to get the Ultimate Trilogy Edition, which contains the main game and the Collection.

Then on March 26, there’s Just Cause 2. I really haven’t given it too much attention if I am honest, but I will download the demo that’s coming this week. But I will be getting one game on that date, and it’s something I already have for 360 via Live and on disc: Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City for PS3. Now, before someone harks onto me about why am I getting the same game on that I already have on my HDD, let alone disc? Well, I have GTA IV on both 360 and PS3, and I had Rainbow Six: Vegas for both of them at one point, as well as The Orange Box, although I traded them both in since, obviously. The latter, going without saying, is a terrabad port compared to the version on 360.

March buys:

  • Battlefield: Bad Company 2 (Platform TBD, but I may end up for 360)
  • Final Fantasy XIII (PS3. Duh!)
  • God of War III (PS3, obviously)
  • Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City (PS3)

  • Resonance Of Fate (I will pick this up most likely, but it depends on the situation on FFXIII, and how far I am)
  • Just Cause 2 (If the demo impresses me a fair bit, I’ll almost certainly pick this up day one)

So I guess that’s my line-up for this month. A great selection of titles. But to hurt my balance further, I am picking up a PS3 Slim today my fat one (made the decision at the weekend before the PSN blackout). Why oh why could Square not release the Lightning PS3 bundle for FFXIII here? I would have waited and picked that up.

Still, good shit, innit.
