It’s the end of the world as we know it, and I feel fine.
Square Enix yesterday released the demo for Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII yesterday, first on Xbox Live and then the US PlayStation Store. I would have grabbed it from Live, but my sub expired last week and all demos are behind a paywall for a week before it becomes a free-for-all.
Anyways, the first Cullen Plays video of the year is a full playthrough of the half-hour demo that gives a glimpse into the final chapter of a saga that has, more or less, overstayed its welcome. And I make no bones in saying that, with XIII’s vanilla instalment burning me massively big time, something I’ve noted before.
My first thoughts? I’d be lying if I said its bigger emphasis on action gameplay suited more to me, but at the same time, Lightning Returns seems to be confused as to what it wants to be. And holy hell at the costumes. Seriously? (On a related note, read this brilliant piece from Aoife Wilson on OXM).
Anyways, go watch the full 30-minute demo below.
Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII releases on February 11 in the US and February 14 in the UK for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
